
Troops Dismantles Terror Networks, Rescues Hostages and Seizes Weapons in Nationwide Operations
Operatives of the Nigerian Army has intensified its nationwide crackdown on terrorists, kidnappers, and criminal syndicates, achieving major breakthroughs in a series of coordinated operations conducted between 29 September and 1 October 2025.
According to military authorities, the operations led to the rescue of hostages, neutralization of terrorists, arrest of key suspects, and the recovery of weapons, vehicles, livestock, illicit drugs, and illegal mining materials across multiple states.
In Borno State, troops clashed with ISWAP/JAS fighters, killing several insurgents and recovering AK-47 rifles, grenades, motorcycles, and communication devices. Hostages were also freed in clearance operations around Mittiri, Loskuri, and Tamsu Ngamdu, where insurgent hideouts were dismantled.
Similar operations in Niger, Plateau, Nasarawa, and Benue States led to the rescue of abducted victims, the arrest of armed herders linked to recent killings, and the recovery of more than 80 rustled cattle.
In Sokoto and Kano, troops intercepted fleeing villagers under attack and captured a wanted terrorist leader, while in Enugu, two suspected IPOB/ESN members were arrested in a sting operation guided by intelligence.
The clampdown extended to the South-South, where illegal refining sites were destroyed in Rivers, and five suspected drug traffickers were apprehended in Bayelsa with narcotics. In Taraba, a convoy disguised as police officers was intercepted with 1,134 blocks of cannabis, while in Kogi, a courier carrying hard drugs, cash, and gold extracts was killed while attempting to escape arrest. Troops in Oyo also busted an illegal lithium mining site, arresting three Chinese nationals and seizing vehicles, phones, and ore.
Overall, the military confirmed that more than 10 hostages were rescued, dozens of suspects arrested, and significant caches of assault rifles, grenades, and ammunition seized. The raids also disrupted drug cartels, illegal miners, and oil thieves, dealing a blow to organized crime networks.
The Army stated that the successful operations demonstrate its resolve to dismantle criminal strongholds, restore peace in affected communities, and support the Federal Government’s broader efforts to strengthen national security and protect food security.
