The Nigerian Army has intensified its nationwide operations against terrorists and criminal networks, recording major breakthroughs that led to the neutralisation of 15 terrorists, the arrest of 42 suspects, and the rescue of 30 kidnapped victims across multiple theatres of operation.
In the North East, troops sustained offensives against Boko Haram/ISWAP fighters in Dikwa, Gwoza, Bama, Banki and Gujba, neutralising 15 insurgents in fierce encounters. A cache of weapons, including rifles, ammunition, grenades, explosives, motorcycles and communication gadgets, were recovered as several terrorists fled in disarray.
In Kaduna State, joint operations with the police and other security agencies led to the arrest of 15 suspects with illicit drugs. Similarly, troops of Operation Delta Safe in Bayelsa apprehended 25 suspects, while two others were arrested in Delta State over oil theft, bringing the total number of suspects nabbed nationwide to 42.
Troops also achieved notable success in rescue operations. In Benue State, 27 kidnapped passengers were freed at Amoda in Ohimini LGA. In separate operations in Borno and Sokoto, six other victims were rescued from terrorist captivity after heavy firefights.
Elsewhere in the South South, troops uncovered and destroyed illegal crude oil bunkering sites in Imo, Rivers and Delta States, seizing thousands of litres of stolen petroleum products. In Ogun State, a drug syndicate was intercepted with large quantities of cannabis.
The Army, in a statement, reaffirmed its commitment to restoring peace and stability across the country, stressing that the successes underscore the synergy among security agencies and the determination to create safer communities and support the Federal Government’s drive for food security.
