Troops Neutralise Arms Courier, Recover 5 AK-47 Rifles in Kwara

Troops of the 22 Armoured Brigade under Operation Park Strike V have neutralised an arms courier and recovered a significant cache of weapons during a snap check operation along the Share–Gbugbu Road in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State.

The operation, carried out on Thursday, September 25, 2025, followed credible intelligence on the movement of illicit arms. Acting on the tip-off, the troops intercepted a Volkswagen Golf 3 vehicle with registration number Bayelsa SAG-133 XA. The driver attempted to escape but was swiftly neutralised by the alert soldiers.

A thorough search of the vehicle revealed five AK-47 rifles and three magazines concealed inside a charcoal sack. According to military sources, the courier had been tracked from Birnin Gwari, Kaduna State, enabling the troops to intercept him at about 8:30 a.m. in Edu LGA.

Commending the operation, the Commander of 22 Armoured Brigade, Brigadier General Ezra Barkins, praised the troops for their resilience and professionalism. He urged them to maintain the momentum while assuring residents of continued efforts to deny criminal elements freedom of action within the brigade’s area of responsibility.

Brig. Gen. Barkins further appealed to the public to provide timely and credible information to security agencies, stressing that such cooperation remains critical in defeating criminal networks.

The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property and vowed to sustain aggressive operations to rid the country of illegal arms trafficking and other security threats.
