TWO FEARED KILLED IN JIGAWA FARMER-HERDER CLASH
About two persons have reportedly died in a clash that ensued between the herders and farmers in the Birnin Kudu LGA, Jigawa State.
The information available indicates that the herders from Katsina State on 2nd July 2024 at about 1600hrs invaded the Safa and Gauraki villages in their large numbers after they had been invited to the villages by the indigenous herders. During their invasion, their cattle began to destroy the farms of the farmers along their passing route.
Consequently, the affected farmers in the communities gathered to defend their farmlands which resulted in chaos between the two parties.
Upon the herder's invasion, the police operatives and the operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps and Vigilance Group of Nigeria rushed to the scenes and dispersed both parties. However, before the security forces succeeded in dispersing the parties, one person each from both parties was found dead as the invading herders were wadding off their cattle, and three of the indigenous herder's houses were set ablaze.
A total number of 15 cattle belonging to the invaded herders left behind were recovered by the operatives.
Meanwhile, the security operatives arrested five suspects among the Indigenous herds who have invited the invaded herders and restored normalcy within the communities while the investigation is ongoing to arrest the other perpetrators.
