Two Pakistanis Arrested for Leading Notorious Kidnapping Gang in Lagos

In a major breakthrough against kidnapping in Lagos, the State Police Command has arrested two Pakistani nationals suspected of leading a notorious gang specializing in abductions for ransom. The operation was in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, to eliminate kidnapping and violent crimes across the country.

The suspects, identified as Roman Gull (19) and Aftab Ahmad (28), were apprehended on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, after a distress call was received at the Ikeja Police Division about the abduction of a 48-year-old Pakistani national in Ikeja. A swift response by the anti-crime patrol team led to the rescue of the victim and the arrest of the two suspects, while five other accomplices, also of Pakistani origin, managed to escape.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects had lured the victim from Kano to Lagos under the false pretense of offering him a job as a chef. They arranged his flight to Lagos and lodged him in a hotel on February 28, 2025. The next day, the seven-member gang visited the victim, overpowered him, tied his hands and legs, and demanded a N50 million ransom from his employer in Kano, threatening to kill him if the amount was not paid.

To buy time, the victim’s employer transferred N1 million to the kidnappers before alerting the police.

Recovered Items

During the operation, the police recovered the gang’s operational vehicle, a grey Toyota Camry sedan, along with:

$2,000 cash belonging to the victim

Three ATM cards

A green card

A driver’s license

A National Identification Number (NIN) slip

Efforts are ongoing to track and arrest the remaining five suspects. Meanwhile, the rescued victim is in stable condition and has reestablished contact with his family.

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, commended the officers of Ikeja Division for their swift and effective response. He reassured residents and visitors in Lagos of the police command’s unwavering commitment to ensuring their safety and security.
