UNKNOWN DISEASE KILLS 5 CHILDREN IN KADUNA STATE

The prevalence of unknown pediatric disease has been discovered among children of 0-13 years old in Kafanchan, Jema’a LGA, Kaduna State.


About five children have died following its outbreak within a few days while over 10 children were admitted at Sir Patrick Yakowa Memorial Hospital, Kafancha. 


Following are dead victims of this unknown disease: Zulaihat Abdurrasheed (13), Hussaina Aliyu (13), Maryam Mustapha (3), Aliyu Umar (4), Abdulshakur Umar (2).


The admitted children were isolated to maintain the epidemiological surveillance and their samples were taken to the healthcare facility in Kaduna City for further investigation on the disease causative agent and the best treatment to render in eradicating it.


The disease's clinical symptoms start with fever, headache, and project to sore throat and general weakness of the body that affects zero to 13 years children.


All the nursery and primary schools in Kafanchan were locked by the schools’ authorities after all pupils have been sent back home as quick aid to curtail the spread of the disease.
