UPDATE: FG, TUC, NLC EIGHT-HOUR MEETING END IN DEADLOCK
An eight-hour meeting involving the Federal Government, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), ended in a deadlock on Tuesday, September 15th 2020.
The meeting, which held at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, began around 11am till past 7pm, ended in a deadlock following the inability of the parties to reach an agreement.
Recall that Eons Intelligence reported on Tuesday, September 15th, 2020, that the TUC threatened to down tools if the Federal Government did not reverse the price of electricity and petrol.
While the TUC and NLC were demanding the reversal of the hikes in the price of petrol and electricity tariffs, the Federal Government pleaded for understanding, saying it could not sustain the fuel subsidy.
The parties, however, agreed that the unions should hold deliberations with their executive council members and return for the second phase of the meeting at a later date.
The unions are expected to hold a meeting today on Wednesday, September 16th, 2020 where they would take a final position on the issues raised and give the Government a feedback.
