US GOVERNMENT CONDEMNS KILLING OF 31 PEOPLE IN MALI TERRORISTS ATTACK

The United States Government on Sunday, announced its strong condemnation of a Militant attack on a bus, near Bankas in Central Mali, which led to the death of at least 31 people, while injuring 17 others.

Local sources said some yet-to-be identified gunmen opened fire on the bus conveying passengers from Songho Village to the market in Bandiagara, ten kilometers away from the crime scene, on Friday.

Songho village, in the central part of Mopti region is said to be the hotbed of insurgency and crime in Mali. It is also reported that most of the terrorists have established links with al-Qaida and the ISIS groups.

The situation in that Country has been largely destabilized since 2012 when the Tuareg Militants seized vast territories in the northern part of the Country. The conflict escalated even more over the activities of Islamists, forces loyal to former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi as well as French interference.

"The United States strongly condemns the attack on civilians on Saturday near Bandiagara, Mali, which left 31 dead and 17 injured," State Department spokesman Ned Price said in a written statement, monitor by Eons intelligence.

"We extend our deepest condolences to the Malian people and will continue to partner with them in their pursuit of a safe, prosperous, and democratic future," Price said.

Jihadists and bandits attacks have skyrocketed across Africa's Sahel region in the last year. This has led to the death and displacement of tens of thousands across Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger and other neighbouring Countries.
