COURT REJECTS NO-CASE SUBMISSION FILED BY IMN LEADER, SHEIKH IBRAHIM EL-ZAZAKY
A High Court in Kaduna has rejected the motion of no-case submission filed by Leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zazaky and his wife, Zeenat.
Recall that in December 2015, Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zazaky and his wife were arrested and detained following a conflict between members of the IMN and the Nigerian Army.
They are both facing trial on eight counts of homicide, unlawful assembly, and disruption of public peace, among others.
El-Zazaky, who arrved at the Kaduna High Court on Tuesday, September 29, had asked the court to revoke the case leveled against them for lack of evidence.
The Court’s Presiding Judge Justice Gideon Kurada had fixed Tuesday for the ruling of the no-case submission after the accused defendants, Abubakar Marshall had asked the court to revoke the charges against the IMN leader for not “disclosing an offence known to law contrary to Section 36 (8) and (12) of the 1999 constitution as amended”.
Justice Kurada, however dismissed the no-case submission and said the court would continue with the trial.
