horor Community Says No to Flood Relief, Demands Long-Term Solutions

Residents of Ohoror Community in Delta State Reject Flood Relief Materials from Council Chairman

Residents of Ohoror, a community within Uwheru Kingdom in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, on Thursday, rejected flood relief materials brought by the council chairman, Jaro Egbo. The community, frustrated by the quality and quantity of the aid, expressed their dissatisfaction by refusing to accept the items, telling the chairman and his team they were not in need of handouts.

According to sources, tensions arose when the council chairman's team arrived in the area with flood relief materials, only to be met with strong opposition from local youths. They declared that they were not hungry and insisted the materials be taken back.

Mrs. Ogor, a community resident, explained that the rejection was due to years of neglect by the government. "We have been treated as if we are hungry people," she said. "It’s shameful. We have been waiting for this moment to show our frustration. We want real solutions, not temporary fixes."

The community’s youths, determined to stand firm, chased away the chairman’s team, sending a clear message that they were no longer satisfied with token assistance. They demanded sustainable development and long-term investments to address the community’s challenges.

Despite efforts by Egbo to convince the residents to accept the aid, the youths remained resolute. In the end, the council chairman left the materials with the community and instructed local leaders to collect them at a later date from the council office.

Egbo later emphasized that the distribution of relief materials would continue in other flood-affected areas, with larger quantities of food supplies such as rice, beans, and noodles being sent to the hardest-hit regions.
