POLICE RESCUE 9 TEENAGE GIRLS FROM ANAMBRA BROTHEL, ARREST OWNER
About nine underage girls have been rescued by the Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command following the raid conducted at Awka-based hotel where they are being used as sex workers.
Following reliable information from the state Ministry of Women and Social Welfare, the operatives on 18th June 2023 raided the so-called brothel at about 1800hrs and found girls who are between the ages 15-23 years old being used for sex slaves.
During the interrogations with the girls, they confessed to have been lured into the job by respective persons that brought them to the brothel with an assurance of giving them jobs to alleviate the poverty/needs of their parents and dependents.
They further revealed to be taken from Ebonyi, Enugu, Akwa-Ibom, and Rivers States.
The rescued girls found in the brothel will be rehabilitated before they are repatriated to their various states of origin.
Also, the Police Command is in collaboration with the Anambra State Ministry of Women and Social Welfare to make sure the girls are taken care of and safely returned to their parents/guardians.
Meanwhile, the owner of the brothel has been arrested for prosecution.
