Delta Police Arraign 30 Suspects After Major Asaba Crime Crackdown, Release 172 Others
The Delta State Police Command has arraigned 30 suspects arrested during an intelligence-led raid on criminal hideouts, black spots, and suspected illicit drug locations across Asaba and neighbouring communities.
The suspects were among 202 persons apprehended during the enforcement operation carried out on Saturday, July 4, 2026, under the leadership of the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations. The raid was conducted based on credible intelligence gathered by the State Intelligence Department (SID).
Following preliminary investigations and screening, 172 suspects were released unconditionally after no evidence was established against them.
Among those arraigned was 63-year-old Prince Chizoba Ojokwu, owner of Prince Tarvan 50 Brothel, who appeared before the Asaba Magisterial District Court over allegations of allowing his premises to be used as a brothel and procuring women and girls for prostitution.
Police said the remaining 29 suspects were arraigned for offences bordering on conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace and possession of illicit drugs.
The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, Yemi Oyeniyi, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring that all lawful arrests are followed by thorough investigations and prosecution where sufficient evidence exists.
He warned operators of criminal hideouts and illegal establishments to desist from activities capable of threatening public safety, stressing that the command will continue to sustain intelligence-driven operations aimed at reducing crime and improving security across Delta State.
