PTF ANNOUNCES AMOUNT SPENT ON EVACUATION AFTER REPS ACCUSATION
The Federal Government has spent N169 million on the evacuation of Nigerians stranded abroad.
Sani Aliyu, the National Coordinator, Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, made this known on Tuesday, June 9, while speaking on Channels Television's Sunrise Daily.
Aliyu said that N169 million was spent by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the evacuation of Nigerians, mainly on their accommodation.
The Coordinator hinted that the PTF got N22billion for the effective management of COVID-19 cases in the country.
"We have not spent much because of the need for prudence in the first place. We need to have evidence.
A lot of the Ministries, Department, and Agencies (MDAs) of the Government are yet to do their quick procurement," he said.
The reaction of Aliyu was in response to the accusations against the PTF, by the House of Representatives on Monday, June 8, over mismanagement of funds.
The House of Representatives had earlier grilled the PTF on COVID-19 over the management of the fund for fighting the spread of Coronavirus in the country.
The Reps also threatened to issue an arrest warrant against the Accountant General of the Federation, Ahmed Idris, if he fails to appear on June 15.
