Abducted Oyo farmer regains freedom as joint security operation forces kidnappers to flee
Operatives of the Oyo State Police Command has secured the release of a farmer, Mr. Owoade Mathew, who was abducted along the Igbojaye–Budo Aare bush road in Oyo State on 12th July, 2026.
The Command disclosed that the victim regained his freedom on the evening of 13th July, 2026, following sustained investigative efforts and a coordinated joint security operation that mounted intense pressure on the abductors.
According to the police, the operational pressure forced the kidnappers to abandon the victim, who was subsequently rescued and taken to a medical facility for evaluation and necessary treatment.
The victim will be debriefed by investigators after receiving medical attention, as part of ongoing efforts to identify, apprehend, and prosecute those responsible for the abduction.
The Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, appreciated the support and cooperation of sister security agencies, community members, and residents throughout the operation.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, assuring the public that efforts will continue to ensure criminal elements have no safe haven in Oyo State.
