DEAL DECISIVELY WITH POLICEMEN WHO WATCHED WHILE HIRED THUGS COMMIT ELECTION VIOLENCE - FORMER IGP

Former Inspector General of Police( IGP) and Chairman, Police Service Commission Mike Okiro charged the incumbent IGP, Alkali Baba to deal decisively with policemen who watched while hired thugs committed election violence during the presidential and National Assembly elections held in February.

Mike Okiro while speaking with newsmen on Thursday in Lagos stated that it has become very important to speak on some irregularities that occurred during the last elections such as the seizure or snatching of ballot boxes by armed gangs and political thugs, vote-buying, delays in result uploading from each of the 176,000 polling units to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal.

The former IGP advised the current inspector General of Police, Alkali Baba and other service chiefs not to allow mistreats tarnish the image of the country.

He further explained that the international community is watching with profound interest to see how open and credible the general election will turn out as it would go a long way to determine how the country’s image locally and internationally would be perceived.
