GUNMEN ATTACK MILITARY POST, KILL SOLDIER, POLICEMAN IN DELTA

Unknown gunmen on Sunday night attacked a military checkpoint at Oton Area of Sapele, Delta and 

killed a soldier and a policeman.


Eons Intelligence gathered that the criminals invaded the community through the Oton River in Sapele to carry out an unknown operation in the area.


The gumen on arrival at the area were engaged by the security operatives on duty who tried to repel them.


Unfortunately, during the encounter a soldier and a police officer were killed.


DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, the Police Public Relations Officer for Delta State Command, confirmed the incident to journalists in Warri, the State capital on Monday, 25th January 2021.


According to the PPRO, investigations are ongoing to arrest the perpetrators and as at the time of filing this report no one has been arrested in connection with the attack.

Onome further disclosed that Military troops from the 19 Battalion, Nigerian Army, Moko, have been deployed to the area.


A source from the community said the incident has caused a lot of tension in the community.


The Incident occurred 2 weeks after three mobile policemen, comprising of two inspectors and a sergeant were killed by gunmen in Ugheli, Delta State.


Series of abduction cases and killings have been reported in Delta State recently amid rising insecurity in Nigeria.


On 6th January 2021, gunmen abducted Henry Gomeromo, CDC chairman, Bomadi, headquarters of Bomadi local government area of the State.


Assessment and Advisory


These incessant attacks are strong indications that there is a loophole in the security network of Delta State. This should be addressed with immediate effect to avoid tension and unseen attacks in the State.
