IGP FELICTATES WITH MUSLIMS, ASSURES SECURITY DURING EID-EL-FITRI CELEBRATION

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Mohammed Adamu has congratulated the Muslim faithfuls as this year’s Eid el-Fitri celebration approaches.

This was disclosed in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DPC Frank Mba, on Friday, May 22, 2020.

The IGP noted that the successful conclusion of the Ramadan, a period of self-denial geared towards attaining wholesomeness, reinforced his belief that COVIDD-19 will be swept out of the nation only if Nigerians comply by all safety measure imposed by the Federal Government and the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control.

The IGP said that he will ensure that there is adequate security during and after the Eid el-Fitr celebrations adding that proactive and robust anti-crime measures, including the deployments of tactical and intelligence assets of the Force, are already in place to prevent any untoward incidents in the country.

The Force reiterated that the National curfew, ban on interstate travels, mass socio-religious gatherings imposed by the Federal Government in Lagos, Ogun, Kano, and Federal Capital Territory (FCT) is still in force.

Recall, the Sultan of Sokoto recently urged all Muslims in the country to observe Eid prayers at home in accordance with the Presidential Task Force (PTF) guidelines, as a measure to curb community spread of Coronavirus.

Governors of some States in the Federation: Borno, Gombe, Kano, Nasarawa, Cross River, Adamawa, Bayelsa, Zamfara, and Bauchi had recently lifted the ban on religious gatherings and worship centres.

In response to this, the Federal Government frowned at the decision by the State Governors who had lifted the ban on religious gatherings, described it as a breach of agreed protocol.
