Breaking: ASUU begins ‘indefinite’ strike
The Academic Staff of Universities Union (ASUU) has embarked on an indefinite strike following the expiration of its 2-weeks warning strike. This was announced at a press conference by the national president of the union in Abuja on Monday.
“The union has decided to embark on total and indefinite strike from Monday 23, 2020,” he said.
The national president further affirmed that the union rejects the use of force to enroll on Integrated Payroll and Personal Information System (IPPIS).
Meanwhile, the National Universities Commission directed universities across the country to close for a month beginning from March 23, due to the outbreak of coronavirus.
The government had met with ASUU twice after the warning strike began on the 9th of March, 2020.
The major grievance of the members of the union is the non-payment of their members’ salary who had not registered into the federal government’s IPPIS, payroll software required for all public officials.
