Operation Hadin Kai Scores Major Success as Two High-Profile ISWAP Commanders Surrender
In a significant breakthrough for counter-terrorism efforts, Operation Hadin Kai has recorded the surrender of two high-profile Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) commanders to military forces. The surrendered terrorists, identified as Ismail Mohammed and Abu Umar, are currently in military custody undergoing profiling and debriefing.
Preliminary assessments reveal that the commanders held strategic roles within ISWAP’s hierarchy and were active in the Mangari axis of the Lake Chad region. Ismail Mohammed, closely associated with senior ISWAP leader Baa Shuwa, possessed extensive knowledge of the group’s command structure. Abu Umar, meanwhile, was a skilled explosives specialist responsible for fabricating and maintaining vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices and other combat-support equipment.
Joint operations by Operation Hadin Kai also neutralised another high-profile terrorist, Mohammed Khalifa, a member of the ISWAP Shurah Council.
The surrender of Mohammed and Umar marks a major setback for ISWAP, given their experience, influence, and technical expertise. Military sources note that their decision to surrender reflects the sustained pressure from Operation Hadin Kai and allied precision operations, which have disrupted terrorist enclaves and compelled increasing numbers of insurgents to lay down arms.
The development underscores the declining morale within terrorist ranks as relentless military operations continue to deny them freedom of movement and safe havens. Operation Hadin Kai remains committed to dismantling terrorist networks and restoring stability to affected communities across the region.
