COVID-19: NIGERIA JOINS OTHER AFRICAN COUNTRIES TRYING OUT MADAGASCAR'S HERBAL CURE
Nigeria has joined other African countries trying out Madagascar's herbal remedy as it imports a shipment of the East African country's Coronavirus drugs for testing.
Nigeria's Health Minister Osagie Ehanire, confirming the news said:
"We have the promise of being able to get a sample of the herb/botanical product for analysis and also probably use that opportunity to speak with the health authorities particularly the scientific community on how they use it."
Osagie stressed that the Madagascar cure would be tested by relevant agencies "to make sure they are safe and they work," before they can be used in Nigeria.
Madagascar's President, Andry Rajoelina, had on April 20, endorsed the use of Covid Organics-a traditional herbal remedy developed by the Malagasy Institute of Applied Research IMRA.
Madagascar's President said Covid Organics is a blend of Artemisia and endemic plants.
"There are two treatment protocols (curative and preventive). The state of health of Covid-19 patients who took Tambavy CVO CovidOrganics improved after seven days and fully recovered after ten days," he said.

Senegal has also approved the use of Madagascar's Covid Organics (CVO), for clinical trials, according to the country's local media.
"We are moving to use the Artemisia [the main component of the CVO]. On our side. We are evaluating it scientifically. We have "given the green light Daouda Ndiaye, head of the Senegalese scientific committee told local Radio Futurs Medias, a local FM network on Thursday.
However, the World Health Organisation has urged caution over the use of herbal medicines to cure Coronavirus WHO Head Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus stressed that "there are no short cuts" to finding a cure for Covid-19.

In related news, South Africa's government has promised to assist Madagascar to test and validate the efficacy of its Coronavirus herbal cure.
"I actually did get a call from the government of Madagascar, they did ask us, they would like to be assisted in the process of trying to validate, try to help investigate the scientific basis on which such a drug could be used," South Africa's health minister Zweli Mkhize told journalists.
Other African countries that have received Madagascar's Coronavirus herbal drugs are Chad, Comoros, Guinea Bissau, Tanzania, and Equatorial Guinea.
Madagascar has recorded a total of over 4.1 million Coronavirus cases and over 284 thousand deaths.
