NIGERIAN ARMY LAUNCHES FRESH MANHUNT FOR BOKO HARAM INSURGENTS, ABUBAKAR SHEKAU

The Nigerian Army, on Wednesday, November 11, launched a manhunt for the fourth batch of wanted Boko Haram insurgents.


The NA announced that more Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) members, Hunters and vigilates members would be deployed into the operation.


A banner showing photographs of the wanted insurgents was unveiled by the Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum and the Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai, at the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) Super Camp Chabal, close to the capital, Maiduguri.


Prominent on the list is the leader of the Boko Haram sect, Abubakar Shekau.

Others are Abu Musa Al Barnawi, Modu Sulum, Malkam Umar, Mallam Bello Husba, Abu Musab Barnawi, Abu Imma, Ibrahim Abu Maryam, Baka Kwasari, Mallam Yan Kolo, Bana Gonna, Mohammed Abu Maryam, and Abu Dardda.


Some of the wanted terrorists on the current list had been on the watch list since 2016, while others were declared wanted for the first time.


During the ceremony, Buratai stated that some of the assailants are living amongst the people, assuring the general public that, with their help, the criminals would be arrested.


He said that some of the terrorists, who had been declared wanted since 2016, have either been arrested or killed in various operations, while some had been on the run.

The COAS said: “We request your full cooperation. The public as well as the Civilian JTF, you will have a copy each, so you’ll follow up,” Buratai said during the ceremony.


“Some of them may be behind your yard or parading themselves somewhere in the market-place and so on. They must be fished out and those in the forest, if you encounter them, make sure you deal with them decisively if they cannot be arrested or captured.


“It is on this note, we will also like the press to give us their full support to ensure that we have gotten the right solution to ending this menace of the Boko Haram terrorist in our state, in our country, as well as for humanity”.


Speaking at the event, Governor Zulum reiterated his support for the Army as he explained that the CJTF is expected to play a supplementary role.

“Today, God in his infinite wisdom has shown us this very important day and therefore, we must commend the efforts of the Nigerian Army, under the leadership of the Chief of Army Staff.


“The 100 motorcycles will be given to you immediately in order to complement this your gigantic action, Governor Zulum said.


He also said he would rebuild communities and infrastructure affected by the terrorist attacks, while calling on fleeing criminals to surrender.
