Army Foils Highway Kidnapping in Taraba, Rescues Two Victims After Swift Military Response

Troops of the Nigerian Army under 6 Brigade / Sector 3 of Operation WHIRL STROKE (OPWS) have successfully foiled a kidnapping and robbery attempt along the Wukari–Ikyior Road in Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State, rescuing two victims from suspected kidnappers.


The incident occurred on 16 January 2026, following a distress alert that armed criminals had blocked the highway and were attacking motorists and civilians. Troops stationed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Wukari swiftly mobilised to the scene.

On arrival, the suspects fled into the surrounding bush upon sighting the troops, abandoning their captives and escaping with their motorcycle. The soldiers rescued two unconscious victims, identified as Mr. Terso Kerso, aged 48, and Mr. Udongu Terbo, aged 42, both residents of Ikyior Community in Wukari LGA.


The victims were immediately evacuated to the Federal University Teaching Hospital, Wukari (FUTHW), where they received urgent medical attention.


In response to the incident, troops have intensified patrols and surveillance within the area to deter further criminal activities and reassure residents and road users of a sustained security presence.


Commending the troops for their prompt action, the Commander of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army / Sector 3 OPWS, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, praised their professionalism and vigilance, noting that their timely intervention prevented possible loss of lives. He reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to sustaining proactive operations across the area and urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies in support of ongoing security efforts.
