COVID-19: ITALY BANS TRAVELLERS FROM 13 DIFFERENT COUNTRIES

Italy has banned travellers from Brazil and 12 other countries from coming into its country because of a high risk of COVID-19 transmission.


The countries banned include Armenia, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Bosnia, Brazil, Chile, the Dominican Republic, Kuwait, North Macedonia, Moldova, Oman, Panama and Peru.


The country's Minister of Health, Roberto Speranza, made the decree in agreement with the Foreign, Interior, and Transport Ministries.


Speranza said the pandemic has entered a more acute phase and the country cannot throw away their sacrifices in the last three months.


Italy was the first country to be ravaged by COVID-19 after it emerged in China in December 2019.


It was the infection epicenter of the world for about four months before the Government began to implement measures in curtailing the viral spread.

As of July 10th, 2020, according to the World Health Organisation (WHO), Italy has recorded 242,000 cases of COVID-19, and more than 35,000 fatalities have been recorded.


However, the viral spread has been curtailed to a certain degree with 12 new deaths announced on Thursday, July 9th, 2020, as against 15 the previous day, July 8th, 2020


As of July 10th, 2020, the United States is the infection focal point of the COVID-19 disease in the world with 135,000 deaths and over 3 million cases, closely followed by Brazil with nearly 68,000 deaths.
