BUHARI DECLARES ZAMFARA 'NO-FLY ZONE', BANS MINING ACTIVITIES

President Muhammadu Buhari has declared Zamfara a no-fly zone as part of efforts to tackle insecurity in the state.


Major General Babagana Monguno (retd.), the National Security Adviser disclosed this on Tuesday, stating that the president has also banned all mining activities in Zamfara state.

The announcement was made to State House Correspondents following a five-hour national security meeting presided over by Buhari at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. 


Major General Monguno (retd.) also stated that all non-state actors have been placed under surveillance, adding that the defence and Intelligence organisation have been put on alert as the federal government will not hesitate to use kinetic means to restore peace in the country.

The NSA said: “The President has approved, based on our recommendations, the imposition and enforcement of a ban on all mining activities in Zamfara with immediate effect until further notice.

“He has directed the Minister of Defence and the National Security Adviser to deploy massive military and intelligence assets to restore normalcy to that part of the country.

“He has also approved that Zamfara State should be declared "a no-fly zone” with immediate effect.”
