COURT-MARTIAL DEMOTES, CONVICTS MAJOR GENERAL WHO COMPLAINED OF LACK OF MILITARY EQUIPMENT TO FIGHT BOKO HARAM
A Court Martial on Monday convicted the former Theatre Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, Major General Olusegun Adeniyi who complained of inadequate equipment to fight Boko Haram.
Adeniyi was prosecuted along his aide, Private Tokunbo Obanla.
The tribunal found Adeniyi guilty of violating military social media guidelines and ordered his demotion by at least three years while his aide, Obanla was sentenced to 28 days in jail with hard labour.
The convictions are subject to confirmation by military authorities.
The Military suspended Major General Adeniyi eight months ago after a viral video of Adeniyi complaining that the Boko Haram Insurgents were outgunning soldiers due to intelligence failure and lack of equipment.

He was subsequently charged with Military social media violations.
Adeniyi, however, denied leaking the video on social media. According to him, his phone was in the custody of his aide, Obanla at the time of the incident.
Obanla had earlier admitted that he posted the video on social media in error.
