ICPC ARRAIGNS FORMER DG OF FIIRO FOR ALLEGED CERTIFICATE FRAUD

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has arraigned former acting Director-General of the Federal Institute of Industrial Research (FIIRO), Chima Igwe, over alleged certificate fraud.


Igwe, who was arraigned before an Ikeja High Court, pleaded not guilty to the three-count charges levelled against him.

 

The former acting DG was alleged to have tendered an Attestation Letter signifying the completion of a PhD programme from the University of Abomey Calavi, UAC, the Republic of Benin to the FIIRO.


He was also accused of using his office to confer an advantage upon himself, which is contrary to and punishable under Sections 17(1)(c), 19 of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act 2000.

 

The presiding judge of the Court, Justice Sherifat Solebo, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500 million, ND adjourned the case till February 21, 2022.
