IGP CONDEMNS ABDUCTION OF MEDICAL STUDENTS IN BENUE, DEPLOYS TACTICAL OPERATIVES FOR RESCUE

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, has condemned the kidnapping of 20 medical students in Otukpo, Benue State. The students were en route to the annual convention of the Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental Students in Enugu when they were abducted. The IGP described the incident as "appalling, callous, and unacceptable."


In response, IGP Egbetokun has ordered the immediate deployment of substantial human and technical resources to support the Benue State Command. This includes additional tactical units from the Force Intelligence Department's Special Tactical Squad (FID-STS) and the Force Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT), as well as advanced helicopters, drones, and specialized tactical vehicles.


The Nigeria Police Force has assured the public of its commitment to the safety and well-being of the abducted students. Efforts are being intensified to ensure their swift and safe return.


IGP Egbetokun has also emphasized the determination of the police force to leave no stone unturned in the pursuit of the perpetrators. The fight against crimes, particularly kidnapping, remains a top priority.
