Lagos Police Debunk Rumoured Bandit Threats Against Schools, Assure Residents of Safety
The Lagos State Police Command has dismissed reports alleging that bandits are planning attacks on schools within the state, assuring residents that there is no credible intelligence indicating any imminent security threat.
The clarification followed the circulation of reports claiming that warning notices had been posted at a school, alleging that armed groups intended to target educational institutions in parts of Lagos.
In a statement, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, said the Command had thoroughly assessed the situation and found no verified evidence to support the claims. He urged parents, school administrators, guardians, and residents to remain calm and avoid spreading panic.
According to the police chief, security agencies have nevertheless treated the reports with seriousness and have taken proactive measures to strengthen security across affected areas and other strategic locations within the state.
He disclosed that police personnel, working in collaboration with other security agencies, have been deployed to schools, critical infrastructure, and vulnerable locations to enhance public safety and prevent any potential security breach.
The Command reiterated that Lagos remains secure and that law enforcement agencies are committed to ensuring that criminal elements do not gain a foothold within the state.
Police authorities also warned that individuals or groups attempting to spread fear, cause panic, or threaten public peace would be identified and dealt with in accordance with the law.
Residents were encouraged to remain vigilant and continue supporting security agencies by providing timely and credible information on suspicious persons, activities, or movements within their communities.
The Command emphasized that effective security depends on cooperation between law enforcement agencies and the public, urging residents to promptly report any security concerns through the nearest police station or designated emergency channels.
