NIGERIAN ARMY SACK 23 ARMOUR BRIGADE COMMANDER OVER MIDNIGHT RAID
In a significant development, Brigadier General Mohammed Gambo, Commander of the 23 Armour Brigade in Yola, has been relieved of his duties by the Nigerian Army. This action comes in the aftermath of a midnight invasion of the Adamawa Police Headquarters (HQ), resulting in the loss of lives, including army personnel and a police inspector.
Last month, the now-former commander orchestrated the mobilization of 12 trucks carrying heavily armed soldiers to launch an invasion of the police headquarters.
Brigadier General Paul Zawaya, hailing from Michika Local Council of Adamawa, has been appointed as the successor to Brig-Gen. Mohammed Gambo.
Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, visibly excited during the reception of the new commander at the Government House in Yola yesterday, urged Brig-Gen. Zawaya to redouble efforts in curbing the rising crime rate within the state.
Expressing concern over the invasion, Governor Fintiri tasked the new commander with fostering collaboration with other security agencies to combat various forms of criminality, with a particular emphasis on kidnapping, in Adamawa.
Governor Fintiri reassured the commitment of his continued support to security outfits, aiming to transform the state into a crime-free environment for the well-being of all residents.
In response, Brigadier General Zawaya, in his remarks, assured the governor that he would undertake every possible measure to uphold security across the state.
