Osun police say Davido was target of attack on Adeleke’s convoy
The Osun State Police Command has said preliminary findings indicate that the attack on Governor Ademola Adeleke’s convoy in Osogbo on Wednesday, August 19, was targeted at Nigerian singer Davido.
The incident occurred during Adeleke’s visit to the palace of the Ataoja of Osogbo, shortly after the governor received his Certificate of Return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Davido and members of the governor’s family were reportedly travelling in the convoy when unidentified men opened fire, leading to an exchange of gunfire with the governor’s security personnel.
According to the police spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi, preliminary investigations indicate that members of the Eiye Confraternity were allegedly attempting to gain access to Davido.
Ojelabi identified one of the suspects as Adebayo Taoreed, popularly known as “Small Rugged,” an alleged ex-convict and suspected member of the group. He reportedly attempted to approach Davido but was stopped by his security team.
The confrontation allegedly attracted other suspected gang members, who temporarily blocked the palace entrance and disrupted the movement of the governor’s convoy.
The police said a 60-year-old man, Tajudeen Yusuf, was later shot in the Ita-Olokan area of Osogbo as the suspected gang members fled the scene.
Yusuf was rushed to the University Teaching Hospital, Osogbo, but was pronounced dead by doctors.
The Command said a full-scale investigation has commenced, while efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend the fleeing suspects.
