IGP Deploys Tactical Squads, Surveillance Drones to Plateau Amid Escalating Killings

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, has ordered the immediate deployment of police tactical squads and advanced surveillance equipment to Plateau State, following a string of deadly attacks that have rocked Bokkos Local Government Area and surrounding communities since March 28, 2025.

The IGP’s decisive directive includes the dispatch of the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations, DIG Kwazhi Dali Yakubu, mni, to personally coordinate the intervention on the ground. Reinforcements include units of the Police Mobile Force, Special Intervention Squad platoons, Armored Personnel Carriers (APCs), and drones to enhance aerial surveillance, alongside helicopters for swift deployment.

This comprehensive response is aimed at curbing the surge in violence and restoring public confidence in the affected areas. The deployment comes after a series of armed attacks left scores dead and several others injured, sparking renewed calls for stronger security presence and intervention.

Upon arriving in Plateau State on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, DIG Kwazhi paid a courtesy visit to the Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang. He delivered the IGP’s condolences to affected families and assured residents of the police force’s full commitment to restoring peace. Discussions with state officials also focused on developing sustainable strategies to end the violence and prevent future occurrences.

The Nigeria Police Force urged residents to remain calm, cooperate with law enforcement, and provide credible intelligence that could aid ongoing investigations and security operations.

Under the IGP’s leadership, the NPF reaffirmed its dedication to working closely with the Plateau State Government, community stakeholders, and sister security agencies to restore law and order across the troubled region.
