Lagos Government to Re-arraign Evans on Amended Charges
The Lagos State government will today re-arraign Chukwudimeme Onwuamadike, popularly known as Evans, before Justice Adenike Coker on an amended five-count charge of murder, attempted murder, and conspiracy to commit kidnapping.
Evans, a notorious kidnapper facing multiple charges of kidnapping and armed robbery, has already been convicted and sentenced by two Lagos courts.
In February 2022, Justice Hakeem Oshodi of the Ikeja High Court sentenced him to life imprisonment for the abduction of Chief Donatus Dunu, CEO of Maydon Pharmaceuticals Ltd.
Later, in September 2022, another judge, Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo (now retired), sentenced him to 21 years in prison for kidnapping businessman Chief Sylvanus Ahamonu and extorting a $420,000 ransom from his family.
Evans is still facing trial in two additional kidnapping cases. However, his trial suffered a delay on October 10, 2024, due to the absence of his legal counsel in court.
There are speculations that Evans may plead guilty to the amended charges, as the prosecution previously informed the court that he had applied for a plea bargain.
