POLICE ARREST 16 SUSPECTS IN CONNECTION WITH THUGGERY ESCALATION IN KANO STATE
Between June 15th and 20th, 2024, there was an increase in thuggery activities in the Sharada-Ja'in and Dala areas of Kano State. The Kano State Police Command carefully studied the pattern of the crimes and reviewed its anti-crime strategies. Intelligence-led and community-based policing approaches were used to address the situation.
In Sharada-Ja'in Kano, an attack on a Vigilante Commander, Muktar Garba, resulted in his death and injuries to two others by suspected thugs. Two principal suspects, Umar Shu'aibu and Umar Kabiru, were arrested. They are believed to be major perpetrators of the thuggery activities leading to homicide and unrest in the areas.
Similarly, in Dala Quarters Kano, a clash caused the death of Bukari Tijjani. Three suspects, Adamu Ado, Ibrahim Ahmad, and Abubakar Abdullahi, were arrested in connection with the incident, and a dangerous weapon was recovered from one of them.
During clearance operations conducted between June 15th and 20th, 2024, an additional eleven suspects believed to be members of various thuggery-related gangs were arrested. They were found in possession of dangerous weapons and illicit drugs.
Meanwhile, more policing and investigation activities are in progress to identify the arrowheads as well as the sponsors of the thuggery activities in the state. All the suspects arrested will be charged and prosecuted upon completion of the investigation.
