Police Intensify Crackdown on Organized Crime, Rescue Kidnapped Victims in Bayelsa and Adamawa
The Nigeria Police Force has intensified its fight against organized crime, particularly kidnapping, through strategic operations across the country. Recent rescue missions in Bayelsa and Adamawa States highlight the Force's commitment to ensuring public safety.
On March 7, 2025, at approximately 3:03 PM, a distress call reported the abduction of Mr. Loveday Akari, Special Adviser to the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), at Ayakoro Community, Ogbia Local Government Area, Bayelsa State. Acting swiftly, security operatives launched a rescue operation, restricting the kidnappers’ movement. Sustained pressure forced the perpetrators to release Mr. Akari and another victim unharmed, without any ransom payment.
In a separate operation in Adamawa State, police launched a rescue effort following the February 21, 2025, abduction of Reverend Fathers Abraham Samman and Matthew David Dusami of the Catholic Dioceses of Yola and Jalingo. Targeting criminal hideouts across the state, security operatives arrested Tahamado Jonathan Demian, 34, a suspected church member linked to the kidnapping. The well-coordinated operation led to the successful rescue of both priests on March 8, 2025, unharmed and without ransom payment. Investigators recovered a locally fabricated assault rifle, ammunition, a handset, and SIM cards, while efforts continue to track down other fleeing suspects.
These successful operations demonstrate the effectiveness of the Nigeria Police Force's intelligence-led approach to combating crime. Inspector-General of Police Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun commended the officers for their bravery and professionalism while reaffirming the Force's commitment to dismantling criminal networks.
The Nigeria Police Force urges citizens to cooperate with law enforcement by providing timely and accurate information to aid crime prevention and suspect apprehension.
