POLICE MOVES TO CRUSH IPOB AND ESN, LAUNCHES NEW SECURITY OPERATION IN SOUTHEAST

The acting Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Usman Alkali has launched a new security operation to check the separatist agenda of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN) in the southeast zone.


 Alkali informed the public that the operation code named, Operation Restore Peace (Operation RP) was customized to bring back the cherished peace that the southeast was known for. 


He made the disclosure at the launch of Operation RP at the Okpara Square in Enugu in the company of the southeast governors led by Enugu state governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi. 


The police spokesperson, Frank Mba in a statement, said that the IGP said the new operation would stop attacks, violence, proliferation of weapons, and other threats in the region. He explained that Operation RP would be carried out by the police in collaboration with the Armed Forces, the intelligence community, and other sister security agencies. 


Meanwhile, the Nigerian Army has disclosed that 11 members of the ESN linked to the proscribed group, IPOB have been killed by security forces. The army said troops along with policemen killed the ESN fighters when they launched an attack on the police command in the Orlu local government area of Imo state on Thursday night May 6. Brigadier General Mohammed Yerima, a spokesperson for the army in a statement via Facebook on Friday, May 7, stated that the IPOB/ESN terrorists were completely eliminated when a reinforcement team of the Nigerian Army and Nigerian Air Force came to support the police personnel.
