Police Neutralise Two Kidnap Suspects, Rescue Victims, Recover Rifle and Ransom in Delta Operation

The Delta State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its ongoing crackdown on kidnapping and violent crimes, following a successful joint operation with the military.

The operation, carried out in the early hours of April 9, 2026, targeted a suspected kidnappers’ hideout along the Obulu-Uku Power Line axis. The action followed credible intelligence linked to recent abduction incidents in Ibusa and Enu-Ani Mega City, Ogwashi-Uku.

According to the police, operatives of the Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber-Crime Squad traced the suspects to the location, where they came under gunfire. A shootout ensued, during which two female victims were rescued, while two suspected members of the kidnapping syndicate sustained fatal injuries.

Items recovered from the scene included one AK-47 rifle, 19 rounds of ammunition, and N4.2 million believed to be ransom collected from victims. The injured suspects were later confirmed dead at the hospital.

Security operatives have since launched a follow-up operation in the surrounding area to track down other fleeing members of the gang and recover additional weapons.

The Commissioner of Police, Yemi Oyeniyi, commended the operatives and the military for their professionalism and bravery, noting that inter-agency collaboration remains vital in combating violent crimes.

He also reassured residents of the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, urging the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies.
