Police Rescue Trafficked Ghanaian in Abuja, Warn Against Fraudulent Travel Offers
The Nigeria Police Force, through INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) Abuja, in collaboration with operatives of the FCT Police Command, has rescued a Ghanaian national, Sammed Iddrisu, who was deceptively trafficked into Nigeria under the pretext of securing travel documents for migration to Europe.
The rescue operation was carried out on June 27, 2025, following actionable intelligence provided by INTERPOL NCB Accra, Ghana, on June 16, 2025.
Investigations revealed that on January 10, 2025, the victim's father, Mr. Nartey Louda, paid GHC 55,000 to a trafficker identified as Attah, who falsely promised to arrange a French visa and other travel documents for his son. Acting on these assurances, the victim was directed to travel to Abuja to collect the documents.
However, upon arriving in Abuja on June 25, 2025, the victim was unlawfully detained and coerced into participating in internet fraud linked to the QNET pyramid scheme, a fraudulent operation disguised as e-commerce.
The syndicate had similarly attempted to exploit other individuals, including another Ghanaian, who managed to escape and report the incident to authorities in Ghana, triggering an international response.
Through coordinated efforts and surveillance, INTERPOL NCB Abuja and FCT Police operatives successfully rescued the victim, while processes for his reintegration are underway.
The Nigeria Police has initiated efforts to apprehend those behind the trafficking scheme and bring them to justice.
The Force also cautioned the public to exercise caution, verify travel offers through official diplomatic channels, and report suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies.
