Terror on Nunku-Gwantu Road: Former Lawmaker Kidnapped, Police Escort Killed
A former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Dr. Joseph Haruna Kigbu, was abducted by suspected bandits on Monday evening while traveling to Jos, Plateau State.
The incident occurred around 6:00 p.m. along the Nunku-Gwantu road, which links Akwanga Local Government Area in Nasarawa State to Sanga Local Government Area in Kaduna State.
During the attack, the assailants reportedly engaged in a gun battle with Dr. Kigbu's police escort, who was fatally shot while attempting to prevent the abduction. Witnesses said the bandits fired indiscriminately, causing panic among motorists in the area.
Local residents described the location as a known hotspot for criminal activities, lamenting the lack of adequate security measures to curb such incidents.
The abduction and the killing of the police officer highlight the ongoing security challenges in the region, prompting renewed calls from residents for stronger security interventions to safeguard lives and property.
