Troops Cut Terror Supply Chains, Arrest Key Suspects in North-East Operations
Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI have intensified pressure on insurgents, disrupting their logistics network and arresting key suspects during Operation Desert Sanity IV carried out between 19 and 24 September 2025 across Borno and Adamawa States.
According to military authorities, the week-long operations resulted in the interception of 21 jerricans of smuggled fuel, the recovery of large quantities of urea fertilizer, the neutralisation of a Boko Haram fighter, and the arrest of two key suspects linked to terrorist activities.
In Adamawa State, troops of 232 Battalion (Tactical) and Sector 4 Special Forces seized seven jerricans of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) on 19 September at Vintim, Mubi South Local Government Area (LGA). Additional seizures included nine jerricans along Fillin Ball–Gella road in Mubi South on 21 September and five more at Tsamiya, Mubi North, on 24 September. On 21 and 24 September, troops also uncovered quantities of urea fertilizer in Mubi Central Market, forcing suspected suppliers to flee and abandon the products. The fertilizer is believed to be a key ingredient in the production of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).
In Borno State, troops of 73 Battalion (Motorised), working with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) and Hybrid Forces, mounted an ambush on 22 September at Kolori Karumi, west of Alau Dam, killing a suspected Boko Haram scout during a night encounter.
Further breakthroughs included the arrest of Thomas James, 54, at the 112 Task Force Battalion Forward Operating Base in Ngwom on 23 September. James was caught with 23 bottles of PMS concealed in a bag while attempting to travel from Maiduguri to Gamboru Ngala. Preliminary investigations linked him to terrorist fuel supply operations.
On 24 September, troops, acting on credible intelligence, arrested Ahmadu Buba, 31, in Garkida, Gombi LGA, Adamawa State. Buba, from Sabon Gari Kimba in Damboa, confessed to joining Boko Haram in April 2025 and admitted involvement in attacks on Mandaragirau Sabon Gari Kimba (August 2025) and the destruction of Mandahuma Bridge (June 2025).
The Military High Command commended the troops for their resilience and aggressive operational tempo, urging them to sustain the pressure to further weaken insurgent networks and cut off their supply chains.
