BREAKING: BURUNDI'S PRESIDENT PIERRE NKURUNZIZA DIES
Burundi's President Pierre Nkurunziza has died. He was 55-years-old.
According to the Government's official statement, President Nkurunziza died yesterday of a cardiac arrest.
"URGENT: The Government of the Republic of Burundi announces with great sadness the unexpected death of His Excellency Pierre Nkurunziza, President of the Republic of Burundi, at the Karusi Fiftieth Anniversary Hospital following a cardiac arrest on June 8, 2020," the Government said in a tweet.
President Pierre Nkurunziza was scheduled to leave office in August this year after the Country elected retired general Evariste Ndayishimiye as the new President.
Nkurunziza ruled Burundi for 15 years after he was elected President in 2005 by members of parliament.
