Troops Foil Planned Attack on Plateau Villages, Neutralize Bandits and Recover Weapons
Troops of 3 Division and Operation SAFE HAVEN have successfully neutralized three armed bandits and recovered a cache of weapons in a preemptive operation aimed at thwarting an imminent attack on villages in Qua’an Pan Local Government Area, Plateau State.
Acting on credible intelligence, the troops launched an ambush in the early hours of May 27, 2025, targeting suspected bandits en route to launch attacks on Teng and Kayarda villages. Upon contact, the troops engaged the armed militia, killing three of them, while several others fled the scene.
Following the encounter, the troops recovered a significant cache of arms from the assailants, including:
4 AK-47 rifles
4 AK-47 magazines
56 rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition
The recovered weapons are currently in the custody of military personnel, while efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing bandits and recover additional illicit arms.
Military authorities described the operation as part of ongoing counterinsurgency efforts to ensure the safety and stability of Plateau communities, reaffirming their commitment to dismantling criminal networks across the Joint Operations Area.
“The activities of these assailants have been largely frustrated by our troops,” a military statement read, “and these efforts will be sustained to protect law-abiding citizens and restore lasting peace to the region.”
Security operations in the area remain active as the military intensifies efforts to locate and neutralize all remaining threats.
