Troops Foil Terrorist Incursion in Kanama, Kill Four Insurgents in Borno
Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have successfully repelled an attempted infiltration by Boko Haram/ISWAP fighters into Kanama town, neutralising four insurgents during a swift counter-operation in Borno State.
According to a report by Zagazola Makama, the incident occurred at about 6:00 p.m. on April 22 when troops of the 159 Battalion, stationed in the area, responded to gunfire heard within the community.
On arrival, the troops discovered that armed insurgents had breached parts of the town. They immediately engaged the attackers with coordinated and controlled firepower, forcing them to withdraw in disarray.
Follow-up clearance operations in the area led to the killing of four of the fleeing terrorists.
During the encounter, one member of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) sustained injuries and was promptly evacuated for medical treatment.
Military sources confirmed that no equipment was lost in the operation. Recovered items from the insurgents included two mobile phones with torchlight features and N21,000 in cash.
Sources further indicated that while the security situation across the theatre remains relatively calm, it is still volatile. Troops, however, continue to maintain high morale and operational effectiveness.
