Troops Intercept Terrorist Courier, Foil Potential IED Attack in Gubio

In a major counter-terrorism operation, troops of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), Sector 3, in collaboration with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), intercepted a suspected terrorist courier attempting to transport Improvised Explosive Device (IED) components into Gubio Local Government Area on Thursday, January 2, 2025.

The suspect, identified as 28-year-old Mr. Murktar Alhaji Chari, was arrested while conveying materials intended for a planned attack on MNJTF troops in Damasak, Mobbar Local Government Area. Items recovered include four empty 12kg cylinders, one 6kg cylinder, two carburetor gas canisters, two pressure regulators, and a hose, all believed to be components for assembling explosive devices.

During interrogation, Mr. Chari confessed to his role in the operation, revealing that the materials were to be used in a retaliatory attack by the terrorist group following recent losses, including the elimination of key members and the seizure of a significant weapons cache.

The interception effectively disrupted the planned attack and delivered a significant blow to the operational capacity of the group. The suspect remains in custody, assisting with further investigations.

Major General Ibrahim Ali, Force Commander of MNJTF, praised the troops and CJTF for their vigilance and professionalism. He reaffirmed the MNJTF's commitment to combating terrorism and safeguarding the security of the region.
