Troops Neutralise Two Terrorists, Recover AK-47 in Benue Operation
Troops of Sector 1 under Operation Whirl Stroke have thwarted an alleged attempt by suspected terrorists to disrupt peace in Amafu Iwer area of Benue State, neutralising two suspects and recovering an automatic firearm.
The operation was carried out during a combined confidence-building and fighting patrol along the Katsina-Ala–Zaki Biam Road. Acting on credible intelligence from local residents, the troops mobilised swiftly to the scene alongside operatives of the Benue State Civil Protection Guard.
On arrival, security forces engaged the suspected bandits in a gun duel. Two of the assailants were neutralised, while others reportedly escaped into nearby bush paths with suspected gunshot wounds.
A subsequent search of the area led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, one AK-47 magazine, eight rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and a pair of green camouflage uniform believed to have been abandoned by the fleeing suspects.
The Force Commander of Operation Whirl Stroke, Major General Moses Gara, commended the troops for their bravery and swift response, describing the operation as another milestone in ongoing efforts to combat terrorism and banditry in the state.
He also appreciated members of the public for providing timely intelligence and urged continued cooperation with security agencies, reaffirming the military’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the joint operations area.
