President Tinubu Reshuffles Cabinet, Replaces Finance Minister in Fresh Changes

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a minor reshuffle of the Federal Executive Council (FEC), resulting in the exit of two cabinet members and the appointment of new replacements.

In a memo issued by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, former Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, has been directed to step down and hand over to Taiwo Oyedele, who will assume the role.

Oyedele, who previously served as Minister of State in the ministry, is expected to take over immediately, in line with the directive that all handover processes be completed on or before April 23, 2026.

Similarly, the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, has been relieved of his position. He has been instructed to transfer responsibilities to the Minister of State pending the confirmation of Muttaqha Rabe Darma, who has been nominated to take over the portfolio.

According to the statement, the cabinet adjustment is aimed at improving coordination, strengthening governance, and enhancing the delivery of economic priorities under the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The SGF noted that the President exercised his constitutional powers under Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) in effecting the changes.

President Tinubu expressed appreciation to the outgoing ministers for their service and wished them well in their future endeavours, while assuring that efforts to reposition the cabinet for optimal performance would remain ongoing.
