NOT TOO YOUNG TO RULE: 19-YEAR OLD UGANDAN TEENAGER TO CONTEST AGAINST 75-YEAR-OLD PRESIDENT YOWERI MUSEVENI

A 19-year-old Ugandan teenager Hillary Humphrey Kaweesa has picked nomination papers to vie for the Presidency in the upcoming general elections.


Mr Kaweesa hopes to contest against Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, 75, who has been President of Uganda since 1986.


According to the Ugandan constitution, any citizen who is above 18 years can vie for the Presidency. 


He is required to collect up to 100 signatures in every district for his nomination alongside payment of 20m Ugandan shillings (about $5,400) nomination fees.

Mr Kaweesa says he plans to fund-raise the fees for his nomination form. 

So far, musician turned politician Robert Kyagulanyi - popularly known as Bobi Wine, and former army general Henry Tumukunde have declared interest to run for Presidency. 


Ugandan authorities say the country would hold its presidential election between Jan. 10 and Feb. 8, 2021.
