NAF Airstrikes Hit Terrorist Hideouts in Timbuktu Triangle, Support Ground Advance

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF), operating under the Joint Task Force of Operation HADIN KAI, has carried out a successful air interdiction operation against terrorist targets at AbbagaJiri in the Timbuktu Triangle, Borno State.

The operation, conducted on January 8, 2026, followed actionable multi-source intelligence confirming the presence of terrorists, their structures, and concealed logistics facilities in the area. NAF air assets were deployed for integrated surveillance and precision strikes, leading to the destruction of identified terrorist hideouts.

According to the NAF, the mission was aimed at degrading terrorist capabilities, denying them sanctuary, and shaping the battlespace to enable ground forces to advance, while adhering strictly to rules of engagement and the protection of civilians.

Commenting on the operation, the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, said the successful strikes reflect the Nigerian Air Force’s determination to dominate the air domain in support of joint operations. He noted that the operation demonstrated the Service’s commitment to delivering precise and decisive airpower to deny terrorists freedom of movement, logistics, and safe havens.

The NAF said follow-up strikes neutralised armed elements seen converging on the location, while subsequent advances by ground troops confirmed the effectiveness of the air operations and the success of the joint air–land effort.

Air Marshal Aneke further reaffirmed that NAF operations would remain intelligence-driven and relentless, stressing that sustained pressure would continue until terrorist networks are dismantled. The operation highlights the critical role of airpower in supporting ground forces and maintaining operational momentum against terrorist groups threatening national security.
