45 FARMERS KILLED, 27 INJURED IN INTER-COMMUNITY CLASH IN NASARAWA

About 45 farmers have been killed and 27 injured following an inter-community clash in Lafia, Obi and Awe LGAs of Nasarawa State.

Sources say up to 5000 farmers across 12 communities have been displaced as a result of the attacks which commenced on Friday morning and continued up to Sunday night.

The affected communities include; Chabo, Daar, Tse-Udugh, Ayaakeke, Kyor-Chiha, Usual, Hagher, Joor, Angwan, Ayaba, Tyungu and Ugba.

Reports say residents of the affected villages have deserted their homes for fear of being attacked.

Some of those who sustained injuries are currently receiving treatment at hospitals across Obi, Lafia and Awe Local Government Areas.

It is pertinent to mention that farmers and herders have a track record for launching violent attacks against each other in recent months.

It would be recalled that in November, gunmen stormed Ashige community in Lafia LGA and shot two herdsmen dead, which led to a reprisal before calmness was restored to the community by security operatives.
