82 Arrested, Weapons and Drugs Seized in Kano Police's Two-Week Operation
The Kano State Police Command has announced significant strides in combating crime and maintaining peace across the state. Addressing journalists at the Bompai Police Headquarters, the state’s Commissioner of Police highlighted the impact of strategic policing efforts in achieving these milestones.
Speaking during the press briefing, the Commissioner reiterated the Command's commitment to safeguarding lives and property in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun. He noted that crime rates in Kano have been steadily decreasing due to the adoption of community policing initiatives, intelligence-driven strategies, and targeted clearance operations.
Between November 1 and 14, 2024, the Command successfully apprehended 82 suspects across 25 major cases. A breakdown of the arrests includes 13 armed robbery suspects, 2 suspected kidnappers, 12 suspected drug dealers, 2 motorcycle thieves, 5 fraud suspects, 13 thieves, and 35 suspected thugs (Yan Daba). Recovered items include 1 AK-47 rifle, 4 locally made guns, 13 cutlasses, 16 knives, 3 motorcycles, 1 tricycle, 24 parcels, and 175 wraps of suspected Indian hemp. Various illicit drugs were also seized, including 50 sachets of Diazepam, 42 sachets of Tramadol, and 307 sachets of Pregabalin, alongside two bottles of a toxic substance known as "Suck & Die," 10 mobile phones, and 10 sliding windows.
The Commissioner emphasized that the successes underscore the effectiveness of the Command’s strategies in dismantling criminal networks across Kano, particularly along its borders with Jigawa, Bauchi, Kaduna, and Katsina states. He further assured residents that efforts to curtail thuggery, armed robbery, and kidnapping would be intensified.
"The Command is unwavering in its dedication to maintaining law and order," the Commissioner stated. "We will continue to deploy community-focused initiatives, strategic communication, and intelligence-led operations to ensure safety and stability across Kano State." He urged residents to support the police by reporting suspicious activities, promising that all measures would be taken to foster a secure environment for all.
