ABDUCTED CHINESE ENGINEER IN EKITI REGAINS FREEDOM

Police in Ekiti State has confirmed the release of an abducted Chinese Engineer after spending five days in captivity.


Eons Intelligence earlier reported that the Chinese national, who is attached to the construction company handling the dualization of the Ado-Iyin road, was abducted on Friday, November 27, at the site by gunmen who also killed a policeman attached to him.


A source within the construction company said the victim regained his freedom around 11pm on Tuesday, December 1 after the payment of N100 million ransom.

The source explained that while the ransom was collected at a place in Kwara State, the expatriate was released around Ilawe-Igede road in Ekiti state.


The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Ekiti state, ASP Sunday Abutu, who confirmed the release of the expatriate, however denied payment of ransom.


He revealed that the release was made possible after a serious manhunt launched on the kidnappers by security operatives.


"Yes, he was released after a serious manhunt and pressure from the security operatives around Ilawe-Igede at about 11:30pm yesterday (Tuesday).”


He assured residents that the command would continue to do everything possible to ward off all criminal elements from the State and ensure maximum security of lives and property.
